With a career spanning over five decades, Dame Maureen has done it all—film, television, theatre, writing, and more. From her early days training at LAMDA after leaving Hull, to iconic screen roles in Educating Rita, The Pianist, and Coronation Street, where she’s reigned as the formidable Evelyn Plummer, Dame Maureen’s career is a masterclass in versatility and longevity.
A veteran of the West End with over thirty plays and four acclaimed solo shows to her name, she’s worked with theatre legends including Laurence Olivier and Alan Ayckbourn. She’s brought joy to millions through sitcoms like Agony and Ladies of Letters, and her collaborations with her late husband, the celebrated writer Jack Rosenthal, remain beloved milestones in British drama.
Beyond the stage and screen, Dame Maureen is a bestselling author, proud grandmother, and tireless advocate for the arts—recognised with a CBE in 1999 and elevated to Damehood in 2020.
In this rare live event, she sits down with the incomparable Christopher Biggins to share personal stories, career highlights, backstage gossip, and her thoughts on life, laughter, and legacy.
